A Guzman Family Legacy Rooted in Fairmount Since the 1950s
Spring Garden Treasures is more than a boutique — it is a living story.
A story of family, legacy, and a neighborhood that has shaped the Guzman family for over 70 years.
Our roots in the Fairmount/Spring Garden community date back to the 1950s. This neighborhood helped raise us, supported our family businesses, and became part of our identity. Every block holds a memory. Every corner carries a chapter of our journey. Today, we honor that past by sharing our family’s treasures with a community that has been part of our lives for generations.
🌭 A Piece of Fairmount History:
My Father’s Hot Dog Cart
Our story began long before this store opened — on the corner of 17th & Mount Vernon, where my father proudly ran his iconic hot dog cart.
It wasn’t just a food cart —
it was a neighborhood landmark.
People from all walks of life — longtime residents, new neighbors, workers, police officers, Temple and CCP students, and families — stopped for a hot dog, a pickle, and a friendly conversation. That cart became part of the cultural heartbeat of Fairmount.
After decades stored in our family garage, that very same hot dog cart is now being sold as part of our historic collection — a symbol of the hard work and community spirit that built our family legacy.
🍻 Mr. Jay’s Place Bar — A Community Hub at 1700 Fairmount Avenue
From 1999 to 2022, my father was the proud owner of Mr. Jay’s Place Bar, the beloved neighborhood spot located at 1700 Fairmount Avenue, right on the corner of 17th & Fairmount.
For 23 years, Mr. Jay’s Place Bar served as a true community hub — a warm, welcoming place where old and new neighbors gathered together after work. It was the kind of bar where everyone felt at home:
People shared stories, celebrated milestones, relaxed after long days, watched games, laughed, and connected like family.
Today, the bar is known as Fairmount Tavern — and beautifully, they continue my father’s legacy by still serving hot dogs and pickles, just like he sold at Mr. Jay’s Place Bar and on his historic hot dog cart. The spirit, flavor, and neighborhood nostalgia he created continue to live on through them.
And that same sense of history, pride, and community is carried forward at Spring Garden Treasures.
🏺 A Store Built From 50+ Years of Family Treasures
For over half a century, my parents collected antiques, vintage items, tools, décor, furniture, artwork, and meaningful keepsakes. Many of these treasures sat untouched for over 30 years in garages our family has owned for more than 50 years.
When the storefront on Spring Garden Avenue became available, I knew it was time.
✨ Time to share our family’s history with the community.
✨ Time to clear our garages while preserving memories.
✨ Time to continue the Guzman family’s legacy in a new way.
Spring Garden Treasures is part antique shop, part vintage showcase, and part community story.
80% of the items in the store come directly from our Guzman family collection.
The other 20% comes from generous community donations, which help us raise money for important causes.
Every piece holds a story. Every treasure carries a memory. And every sale honors the journey of our family.
💜 Giving Back to the Foundations That Helped Our Family
Every donated item sold in the store helps support organizations that have had a profound impact on our lives:
- Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania
- Autism Foundation
- Rett Syndrome Foundation
- Alzheimer’s Association
- Make-A-Wish Foundation
- Sunshine Foundation
These foundations have helped our children, our parents, and our loved ones through challenging and life-changing moments. Our mission to give back is not just business — it is personal.
🌸 Meet Valentina — The Heart of Spring Garden Treasures
At just 11 years old, Valentina is one of the biggest inspirations behind this store.
Valentina is the daughter of Cristina, the store owner, and she is lovingly supported by her grandparents — the same parents who built the legacy this store celebrates.
Valentina lives courageously with Rett syndrome, Epilepsy, and Autism. She faces daily challenges with speech, motor skills, and mobility, yet she continues to bring imagination, creativity, and joy to everything she does.
She loves creating things — soaps, candles, artsy “potions,” and custom-designed t-shirts — so we gave her a space to shine.
Her handmade items include:
- Custom soaps
- Beautiful candles
- Designed t-shirts
- Creative craft items
Each item she makes is filled with hope, strength, and love.
When customers purchase Valentina’s creations, they support her dreams while helping the foundations that assist children like her.
Valentina is more than the owner’s daughter, — she is the heart, soul, and purpose behind Spring Garden Treasures.
